Welcome Home Elder Alvordo

Cousin Thomas made the long flight from Brazil, to Atlanta to L.A. on Wednesday --- home from his great mission.
Thomas experienced every missionary's nightmare. He got to airport and no one was there to meet him, so he went out and sat on the curb at LAX. (Actually Kurt & Cherie and their fam were were inside and missed him somehow.) Eventually he begged a stranger to use their cell phone. He only knew one number, his home phone. Of course no one was there so he just waited. Eventually he felt a tap on his shoulder. It was Tevin, but he had grown so much he at first didn't recognize him and wondered, "why is this kid tapping me on my back." Then all the family was there and I'm sure there was the usual rejoicing.

We all met at Grandpa's in La Canada. There was food and just sitting around listening to Elder Alvord. He has an accent (which Mom says sounds a bit Irish). And he pauses occassionally to search for a word in English.
He looks great. He has a humble, sweet, sweet spirit. Oh, we love our missionarys. His plan is to be up to Provo and live with Travis and Tyler in the next 3 weeks. So you Provo, contingent may want to have your own welcome home party.

  1. It was so good to see him. We love missionaries!!!! The girls and I weren't going to be able to go to Grandpa's because of piano lessons in Fontana, but we called dad while we were on the 210 freeway and the party was still going so he encouraged us to stay in the carpool lane and come. It was nice to be included. He is a very special young man.

  2. Aaa, Mom, in last last line of your comment were you refering to the "he" who encouraged you to stay in the carpool lane or the "him" in the first sentence as being "a very special young man"?
