My son’s a CTR,
I go to PEC.
I work for CES,
I study the TG.
I read the B of M,
I probe the D&C
I search the KJV,
I ponder the JST.
Today in BYC,
We planned for EFY.
I stayed a little after,
And had a PPI.
The YM and YW,
Are putting on a play.
It’s one that I remember,
We did in MIA
Before our oldest son
Went in the MTC,
He helped the BSA,
Complete their SME.
Soon our oldest daughter,
Is heading for the Y.
Soon our oldest clothing is going to DI.
Now, if you’ve understood
This alphabetic mess,
The chances are quite good,
That you are LDS.

LITTLE SHOP OF RACHEL & SARAH

Rachel and Sarah are exceptional in MHS's latest musical production - LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS which played last weekend and will also be this Thurs. - Sat.

Sarah is the voice of the plant .... so in a way she is the title role.... at least the character that is portrayed on all the show posters. She is amazing.
Rachel is 1 of 4 skid row street urchins that are do-wop girls that narrate in song or join in as backup singers in almost every scene of the show. Rachel is can't-keep-your-eyes-off-her good as always.
The video... as is often the case... does not do justice to the girls or the production, but it will provide a taste of this silly, funny, rockin, a little bit horrible show.

WAGON BREATH

The old '89 wagon was O.O.C. (out of commission) the last couple of days of last week. We thought it might be a goner with horrible noises Rachel revealed it was making... so bad not even SHE would drive it - or was it that no one dared drive with her to school?
Dad may have given the old car a few more breaths of life. In looking for the warranty of the brakes Dad came across an old lifetime warranty from 1998 for the power steering pump. The autoparts store honored it so we got a new pump for "free"- labor by Dad. Now the pump doesn't leak and then have the fan belt splash it all over. (But with the new powerful pump ANOTHER leak in a lower hose drips even better now with the greater psi. Oh boy.... so the wagon is still relegated to park on the street.)
It's the brakes that were making all the racket. (Note: Rachel tends to take after one-of-her-parent's driving habit of gun it, stop, gun it, stop, gun it, etc... tough on brakes). So, for about the 6th time, Dad took the autoparts store up on their lifetime warranty on brake pads - labor by Dad... ha! there must be some good reason to keep a car that's older than half your grown children....
So for a little while longer the community will hear the roar of the wagon gunning down the road, gun it, stop, gun it, stop....

Lights, Camera, Action

I have been a little out of the habit of blogging recently - there is a lot going on at 336. One of those things has been filming the Seminary Video. This year's movie will be Raiders of the Lost Ark. I just had to post pictures of the ark dad made for the occasion. Folks - that is what you can do with a cardboard box, crowns from burger king, styrofoam and two babies from the thrift store (and some gold spray paint). I appreciate him helping me so much. Stay tuned to the blog for the posting of the video in a few weeks. It looks like it is going to be really terrific!!!!

KANSAS CORN, etc....

Looks like Kansas is a smart place to be. I'm glad we have a savy Cornwall contingent that moved there a year ago to be part of the prosperity. See or listen to this NPR story from today...

Steppin' out

Our little girl is about to take transportation to the next level. She has been so much fun and extremely cute lately. We just wanted to share this accomplishment.

A 'HORROR...' STORY

LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS opens tonight. Rachel and Sarah have prominent roles in the fun MHS musical that runs this weekend and next. (Mom took a few shots at parent's night last night so pics, vids and tunes will surely follow.)

Week 2

We promise not to give you a weekly update but we wanted to show you how much progress our little garden has made in one week. We are so excited.
A day after our last post we had about 10 more sprouts and I am amazed at how much they have grown in a week. They are taking over all our window space. On Saturday we planted them in the pots. We purchased the planters at the dollar store and got some dirt at Home Depot. We had to buy more pots last night because we didn't have enough. We water them every morning and evening and will move them outside when it gets a little warmer (we have been having a lot of rain.) The green beans have been my favorite so far because they are so tall and because of the neat way they pop out of the dirt. Their little neck pops out first and before you know it the head pops out and is an inch above the dirt. We have three additional pots on Elizabeth's window seal full of tomato plants.

PICTURE YOUTH CONFERENCE

The Youth Conf. photographer posted all the photos (over 750) on a web gallery here - http://gallery.mac.com/bakers4ever#gallery . This will give you a snipet of an idea of the joy of Youth Conference 2008... without actually being there. Thanks to the Bakers for the pictures. If you happen to be particularly interested in Cornwall focused pictures ... which is not unlikely since you are on the Cornwall blog... here are some of the shots that show off those cute Cornwall girls with their Youth Conf. 2008 buddies. (p.s They take a few seconds to load. But what can you expect... they are MAC based. j/k Rachel)

YOUTH CONFERENCE SKIT-ishness

Rachel displayed a high degree of creativity and talent in the production of the SILENT-MOVIE-Family skit... which, as you will see is actually a video. You all remember those silly skits that your "Families" did on stage as part of Youth Conference. Rachel's video skit is fun and clever... unfortunately it's qualities went over (way over) the heads of youth in the setting of late Saturday night just before the infamous Stake Dance. So here it is for others to (hopefully) appreciate.

"LIFE IS A SCREEN TEST"

TAKE ONE....
Dad dropped the girls off at Youth Conference tonight. The theme this year is...(see title of the post). Rachel's 'family' is Silent Movies. Sarah's family is Comedies... they decorated their table with silly string. Then there is the Western family, the Disney family, the Nacho Libre family ... their table is a roped fight ring and they all have capes, the Napoleon Dynamite family... the High School Musical family and a few more. We will encourage the girls to give a full report.

It all looks very fun. Silent Movie is definitely the classiest. The guest speaker is staying at 336 tonight. We will let you know how it goes.

Bye Bye Fence

We have been having crazy wind storms for the past few days. Last night was the peak and part of our back fence decided it was easier to lay on the ground than to fight the wind. Our neighbor came over to ask us if we were ready to replace it because he has a dog and as of right now he can't let the dog out because it would be able to run away. Too bad this wasn't on the list of projects for last week. Jason is trying to patch up the fence as best he can, but we will hopefully get it replaced this week.

It’s been quite the first quarter
of 2008...
Cornwall Comings & Goings
Have been truly great...

The year started with:
COMING home for the holidays by everyone (see video Jan 13).
Then:

Wow family... what a lot of fun Comings & Goings and the togetherness they brought. And 2008 was thought to be a "slow" year with no planned weddings, missionary releases, etc.... We do, of course have at least one more big C & G with Rachel GOING off to college in the fall.

Woodburn Tulip Festival

Today Elizabeth and I went to the Tulip Festival in Woodburn Oregon. We went with the Tanners and had a great day although it was rainy and cold. Here are some pictures but they don't do it justice. (I know there are a lot but we took 42 pictures and it was hard to narrow it down.) There were fields and fields of the brightest colored tulips. We walked up and down and smelled the beautiful flowers.

PS They have a contest for the best picture. I was thinking of entering until I saw last years winner. I do want to add that if some members of this family were to come and take pictures I think they would have a great chance of winning.

Garden

We planted a garden last Tuesday and in one week our lettuce has grown over an inch and we can see a tiny stem of our cherry tomato plant. (You can see the stem in the second starter pot on the second row.) Elizabeth helps me water them everyday. We are so excited to see what will become of these little seeds.

A 5-6-7-8...

I got to take a little side trip from Kansas (though I was rather sad to leave) to go to Provo to audition for the revered Young Ambassadors. My audition was Friday evening. Everything went pretty well, indicated by the fact that I got a CALL BACK for Saturday morning!
Auditions were in the KMB, but call backs were in the brand spankin' new Richards building (it was the first time any YA's had practiced in there.) First, we sang a piece that we had brought {32 bars of The Wizard and I} and then we auditioned three dances: #1-Dancing Through Life , #2-Whitney Houston's I Wanna Dance With Somebody (by the way, this one was AMAZING, so much fun!) and #3-The Audition from A Chorus Line (which we learned at the initial audition.) Lastly, Randy Boothe taught us some solos from the current YA show, and each girl sang them by herself. It was an amazing experience.

THE STATS: 240 people auditioned {don't know the boy/girl ratio}
- 23 girls were called back {and 19 guys, but that doesn't matter as much.}
-There ended up being a few more ladies at the call backs because any past YA's don't have to audition, but can just come to the call backs.
-There are 26 spots open: 13 girls and 13 boys
-There is a very, very good possibility that the 7 alumni YA ladies will be accepted {and for very good reason.} Thus about 5-6 open spots remain
-I was one of the very youngest, as far as I know, I was the only one who would be a freshman in the fall of '08.The list will be posted some time around this Saturday.

We WERE There... But We're Not In Kansas Anymore...

9 states in 9 days... and a 11,000 ft. altitude change and nearly 100 degree temp. change in the last 30 hours... and a whole lot of fun (and driving) in between.

Completed Projects

This last week we were treated with a visit from the 336 Cornwall's. It was great to have them see our home and our little town. We immediately put them to work on all the projects we have been dying to get done around here. First the back steps:

Before

After! We now have a grand staircase from which to exit the house toward the backyard. These stairs are very beautiful and much more grand than we could have ever imagined!!

The next project was to put a light up in the living room ceiling. Dad had to do some fancy maneuvering through our attic crawl space. We don't have a before picture so just imagine a plain old ceiling. This is the after shot of our new light! It makes quite the difference. We are excited to have some evening company and use our light.

Also on the list of projects completed is the master bathroom drain, siding fixed around the outside door (if you look at the before and after of the stairs you can see the before and after of the siding as well), both storage rooms now have light switches instead of a string to pull. I'm sure I have probably missed one or two because we (or should I say Dad) got so much done! Thanks!!!

WOE IS WE...

All we wanted to do was shoot the I-70 to Grand Junction but Mother Nature surprised us and gave us a white knuckle ride about an hour west of Denver. Finallythe Rocky Mountains, icy, snowy roads, closure after closure, accidents aglore, etc... got the best of us and we pulled off and took the only place we could find to stay out the night. Yes... we are roughing it, but don't worry too much, we will survive. We don't even know quite where we are... somewhere near Brekenrigdge and east of Vail. (We WILL miss the few hours this is taking from us being with the Provo kids - if we get there at all).
All they had left was a room with a view. So we had to take it. Oh well....

A Walk Down Memory Lane

Yesterday Dallin and I watched Willow. I remember watching it several times when we were younger. I have very fond memories of it and I don't know why because it is a scary movie. Next time we are all together I want to watch Pee Wee Herman because that will definitely be a walk down memory lane.

I'm In

It is with great pleasure that I announce that I was accepted
into the Industrial Design Program at BYU. I've been anticipating
this for quite a while as many of you know. I just applied on Tuesday
and they called me today to inform me of my acceptance. I will be attending
the spring/summer terms which will get my first year done with and then
I will reapply for the fall as a Sophomore. Thanks for all the love, support and prayers!

Wow

Watch this, laugh, and be happy.

Jeff's On The Road...

Good luck Jeffrey. We are thinking of you today and have high hopes and sincere prayers that today will be the START of the NEW ROAD for you. You have worked hard and been dedicated and that will certainly reap a reward as you apply to the School of Industrial Design.
