On April 2nd Emary fell down in the garage. It seemed that she tried to step on a water bottle and it rolled out from under her. She cried for a very long time, at first I thought she had really hurt her head so I kept rubbing it. We decided to have her take a bath since she loves baths. I figured this would calm her down. I realized when I put her down to undress her that she wasn't standing on her left leg. I had my Mom come over to check her out. We decided to give it a little time. She was up all night. Every time she moved it would hurt. Long story short, we ended up at the ER and they put her in a splint and told us to have her see an orthopedic surgeon/doctor. We got an appointment that day and Emary got a new big purple friend for 3 weeks.
So here she is with what Bennett calls her "big one"
This is the day she got the cast, she was already crawling and dragging her leg behind her.
This is the next day and a closer look at all we can see of that little leg. Her tiny toes!
As you can see she is just as happy and silly as ever.
Again, heres the big one! We had to find socks that had skids on the bottom, since we knew she would be standing and trying to walk in no time.
She loves to bang her cast against the ground and hear it bang. And it doesn't even hurt!
Sometimes she tries to take it off.
She is pointing it out to me....since I can barely notice its there right!
She is such a sweet baby.
Life with the cast:
It has required our little independent girl to become more dependent. I secretly like that she needs to be held more and carried places. It makes her still seem like my little baby!
Emary has to have sponge baths and she does not like them. She doesn't understand why she can get in the tub with Bennett anymore.
This cast really hasn't held her back. She has stood up to dance, try and walk and climb things...including the slide in the playroom which we have to tip over so she doesn't hurt herself. She still crawls all over the place.
The only real tricky part has been at night. Emary is getting 3 new teeth and between that and the cast has been spending a lot of time in our bed. We feel bad most of the time that she is really struggling at night, but then we get a cast to the head and remember that maybe she in fact has the advantage!
She is a such a sweet happy and resilient baby!
We feel so bad that she got hurt but are so glad that it will heal quickly.
Plus Robbie says since she is being held so much it will be good practice for a plan ride we will be taking in a few weeks!
We have some video footage that we will add later but there were some requests for pictures so here they are.
