Happy Birthday Dallin
Katie's College Finale
Mom and Dad were up in Provo on Thurs - Sat. for Katie's graduation hoopla. We are so proud of Katie for performing with such excellence, grace and especially determination to "hit" that last note of her personal BYU musical theater production. It was a wonderful run.

WHEN FAITH ENDURES
Today was a joint third hour andwe did the "hymn testimony" where you share your favorite hymn and then everyone sings it. I wanted to share mine with you. The hymn that has probably meant the most to me in my BYU career is Hymn #128 When Faith Endures.I will not doubt I will not fear
God's love and strength are always near
His promised gift helps me to find
An inner strength and peace of mind
I give the Father willingly
My trust, my prayers, humility,
His Spirit guides; His love assures
That fear departs when faith endures
God's love and strength are always near
His promised gift helps me to find
An inner strength and peace of mind
I give the Father willingly
My trust, my prayers, humility,
His Spirit guides; His love assures
That fear departs when faith endures

For about two years every time I went into the practice room I sang this hymn. It gave me faith as I practiced for MDT auditions and YA auditions. I didn't know what the Lord had in store for my future and I just had to practice with faith that it would be worth my efforts. I knew what I wanted but as the song said I needed to align my will with the Lord.
Now I can testify that fear does depart when faith endures. I endured many years in faith and now I am an BYU Music Dance Theater Graduate and a YA alumni. This hymn got me through some had days, weeks, and years. I hope that it can be a strength to you sometimes when Faith is needed.

Making Grandma Hodgkinson Proud
On a Happier Note
The reason why I had called Clark Hodgkinson (see post below) was that I saw that Heather and Greg had had their baby on their post. Check out more pictures here.
The other big news is that Haylee Hodgkinson got engaged a week or so ago to Darren Gunnerson. Wedding bells to ring this summer. What fun and exciting things going on in the Hodgkinson family.
And Then There Was One
Mary Hodgkinson Balch 1920 ~ 2007 86, passed away April 7, 2007 at her home in Orem. She was born in Vernal, Utah on October 25, 1920, the sixth child of Lewis and Mary Armina Hodgkinson. Mary had many pleasant memories growing up with her four sisters and five brothers. She moved to California where she worked as a Civil Service Clerk. Mary married Lee T. Balch in 1972 and their marriage was later solemnized in the Oakland Temple. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions, as her greatest love was serving as the music leader in the Primary. Many people treasure the quilts Mary lovingly made for them. Mary spent many hours reading and especially enjoyed poetry. Mary and Lee were proud parents of a daughter, Marilee and a son, Brent. Lee died in 1971 and their son Brent, was killed in an automobile accident in 1978. Mary moved to the Aspen 8th Ward in Orem in 1991 and made many new and loving friends. She is survived by her daughter Marilee (Curtis) Gardner, and their children Amber, Kamie and Shane, and a great-granddaughter, Anika. She is also survived by a brother, Grant Hodgkinson and a sister, Rayola Andersen, and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

Seminary Feast
The Seminary students were shining stars today. They were the speakers and singers in the Monrovia Ward Sacrament Meeting. It was a spirit-filled meeting and very uplifting. That meeting is usually followed by a breakfast put on by the seminary teachers - but without doing two wards Sister M. and I decided that they should get right to class. The kids weren't all pleased with this decision and so many of them came over after the 3-hour block for snack which consisted of Jordan Zepeda at the stove making us Mashed Potato Tacos - Zepeda style. We had a great time visiting and eating. I love hanging out with those kids!!!
A fun spring Break
We had a fun spring break, we have a ton of pictures, but are only giving highlights. A video of the game is coming. But we had so much fun, great seats, great game, and they WON!! |
I went to the mall with Andrew and we got some Chinese food, and bought a video game it was really fun.I was asked to help Harley on her pinewood derby, it is for Faith in God, the race is in the beginning of May, we will see how we do, more pictures will come once we have finished.
We went to the temple. On Saturday, it is always good to go to the temple. We had a really good time and we went out to eat at Famous Daves Bar-b-que. We had a great time
We have seen some nice weather yesterday and today, it is suppose to be in the 80's tomorrow. We sang in church today and we recorded it, but for some reason it is not downloading onto google video, we will keep trying. But we had a great week.

Dallin and I are making the most of our time with just the two of us. For FHE this week we went to the theater and saw A Night in the Museum. Tuseday we went to a park with Dallin's fellow MTC teachers and had barbeque pork. Wednesday night we went to a yummy dinner for a company Dalliln will intern with in the Fall and we did some baby shopping. Thursday we walked over to the creamery and got some ice cream.
Friday night we got dinner at Macarooni Grill and ate it up the canyon where we got engaged almost a year ago. (Thanks for the gift card Grandma.) Tonight we went to the Salt Lake Temple and did a session. It was my first live session and the first one in the SLC temple. That building is so beautiful. I am just walking on air tonight.

That Cute Zack Godoy!!
Sunday night our ward had a baptism. Zack Godoy has been investigating the church for a few weeks and has attended seminary just about the entire time. We presented him with our seminary quilt. We made the quilt the first week of seminary with every student making a square. We left a square empty hoping that we would be able to have a convert in our class this year. Rachel decorated his square and we gave him the quilt. His response was so sweet. He was so honored and excited. It is joyous to see someone so excited about the truthfulness of the gospel, about their being a living prophet on the earth and the joy of having scriptures you can turn to every day.
The Monrovia Ward Seminary kids participated in every aspect of the service, including a special musical number with the students pictured below.

RB and MB Captured on TV
Thanks to TiVo we were able to pause the TV and take these pictures of Robb and Marybeth on Deal or no Deal. We keep seeing Marybeth a lot but Robb seems to be stuck behind the lady playing.
Tonight is the night

Well the time has come. Well at least we think. We went on the website and the lady that is "up next" is the lady that we watched. So technically it will be on tonight. We are going to try and tape it, but I just wanted to throw it out there that anyone that wants to watch it should be on NBC at 8pm. For those that don't know we are just behind and to the left of the contestants, We have no idea if we are on or not, but we should be. We shall see.

A-Ward Conference
Today was Ward Conference - the first for the new Stake Presidency. It was at the Arcadia Ward. Dad was asked to teach the middle hour - all the adults - and to do YM/YW Q & A the 3rd hour with Pres. Magnusun. The theme: Isaiah 4:6 regarding the tabernacle [temple] for a shadow in the daytime from the heat, and for a place of refuge, and for a covert from storm and from rain.
Dad started off his class with an activity for a volunteer to win a prize by following directions on colored cards. It was not until the proper "pattern"/order for the cards was shared that the goal (a stack of Mom's freshly baked cookies) was reached. The pattern was displayed by showing the first row of some building blocks. The activity evolved into a discussion on the "pattern" revealed for building the Kirtland Temple in D&C 88:119 as also applicable for building our homes -
to be a house of Prayer, a house of Fasting, a house of Faith, a house of Learning, a house of Glory, a house of Order, a house of God. Our homes, if we follow this o-r-d-e-r also may also be a sacred refuge and shelter.
Mom was Dad's helper in building the "house" and doing the overheads, etc... as Dad presented each building block and discussed temple patterns to home applications.

Everyone Knows It's Windy
It was Rachel's wish to be able to go to the beach during Spring Break - and although there were wind warnings we headed down to Hungtinton Beach.
Our first stop was this really fun restaurant called the Longboard Restaurant. We split a couple of really yummy things - and the place was quite entertaining.
Sarah counted 16 T.V.'s - we weren't interested in the T.V.'s but we were interested in the people who were interested in 16 T.V.'s.
I had to take this picture. This is the shop where we ended up finding Jeffrey's board shorts one year. Yes we all remember it well - the pink polka dotted Volcum suit.
The girls bravely braved the water, while I bravely endured the sand storm. I can still feel a little sand in my right ear.
We decided to top it off with a visit to Cold Stone. We had a really fun day being together. They are great girls to hang out with!!!
