To the top of the Mountain and back...

Here we are at the top of the Y!

Then the rest of the pictures are at the top of Y mountain. It was probably one of the hardest things I have done in a while, but it was totally worth it!

August Temple Open Houses

With Robb and Marybeth heading to Philadelphia for the Temple Open House - I thought our Throwback Thursday post could also be a temple open house visit that we did in August.  We went on August 19, 2005 to the Newport Beach Temple.  I have vivid memories of that day.  I remember the beautiful wood in the temple - matched 336.  Hadn't seen a temple with that stain before.  I also remember this day because Katie had just had her wisdom teeth out a day or two before.  She really wanted to go - although we just about killed her.  I love to see the temple and my family at the temple.  Wish we were with the Robb Corns today!!!

August 17, 1948 Melvin and Beverly for Time and All Eternity

I love these beautiful pictures from my parent's wedding day.  It was also a warm August day like Shirl and Lenore.  My dad looks so handsome.  My mom looks gorgeous.  We girls loved my mom's dress.  It was carefully laid in my mom's cedar chest.  Barb and I got it out on several occasions, tried it on, pranced around and then stuffed it back into the cedar chest. Unfortunately, the train of the dress was full of black round holes where we had accidentally slammed the lid of the cedar chest down without making sure it was in all the way in.  I have included a copy of  their marriage license below.  It is signed by Joseph Fielding Smith.   Since my dad was an assistant to the President on his mission he accompanied Elder Smith on the mission tour and then was bold enough to ask him to perform the sealing after he returned home.  My dad's best man is his brother Ralph.  My mom's sister Carol is closest to her while my dad's sister Rayola is on the end.  My mom's trio buddies rounded out the group of bridesmaids.

No Girl's Camp for Dad

No girl's camp for dad this year.  He could have made an appearance, but with us being in Ohio, it sealed the deal and the streak was broken.  So glad that he had so many years to hang out with our girls.  I got to get in on the action a few times.  Really Fun!!  Thankful for the leaders that went and all those cute young women who have blessed our lives.

GOODBYE COLUMBUS - HELLO PROVO

Monday, August 1st, Mom flew to Columbus to help Rachel box up her and Spencer's  belongings. Tuesday, August 2nd the good people of Rachel and Spencer's ward did all the heavy lifting to move furniture to the garage.  Dad flew to Ohio Tuesday night.  On Wednesday, August 3rd, Dad & Mom with a lot of cheering on from Ilo, loaded the Budget truck while Rachel cleaned and cleared the house.  It was 90 degree temps + 90% humidity. With the truck ready to roll, Rachel spent Wednesday night at Spencer's brother's house so Mom and Dad could get up a couple of hours before dawn, deflate their mattress, turn off the lights and lock  the door to the stately place that was Rachel and Spencer's first fine home.

Thursday, August 4th the loaded truck was driven 635 miles down I-70 to Grain Valley, Jackson County Missouri.  Mom and Dad had a fun evening and dinner at the home of Jason and Stefanie.  Friday, August 5th started early for the long haul, 1100 mile leg up on I-80 to Provo, Utah. There was a heavy thunderstorm in Iowa, which was great because it washed the 1/4" thick bugs off the front of the truck.  Mom and Dad took turns driving and sleeping and did a lot of planning and talking about family.  We made our goal of getting a fresh peach/raspberry shake at the Dairy Keen in Heber just before they closed Friday night.

It was fun to drive by Monrovia, Indiana

Happy Birthday Charles Warner Player Jr.

Charles Warner Player Jr.

Beautiful family - six kids - three girls and three boys.  We come through  Charles Fredrick, first row far right.  They had a daughter that was born between Fredrick and John Raymond named Martha who died at birth.

Here is a picture of Amazina with her son John Raymond at the gravestone of her beloved Charles W. Player
Charles Warner Player Junior was born on August 7, 1852 in Lone Tree, Nebraska.  We learn about his parents, Charles W. Player and Betsy H. Player, Charles's birth and their journey to Salt Lake City here.  Charles was born on their journey and was only two months old when the family arrived in Salt Lake.  His parents had been refugees from Nauvoo and had spent five or six years in preparing and getting an outfit to cross the plains to Utah.    In early life young Charles learned the trade of his father and grandfather, and displayed unusual ability in the building and stone cutter's line, and with his father and brothers cut stone on the temple block for a number of years in the 60's and 70's. (1860's and 1870's that is - that last line was a direct quote from his obituary.) During this time he met and married Amazina Lees - remember she was born on the banks of the Mississippi under a tree in the pouring ran.  Her expectant mother  having just disembarked from the ship Amazon. Charles and Amazina married in 1872.  In 1874, Charles began contracting and building, which he continued until about 1893. He then retired to their farm but his restless energy would not let him retain there, and he accepted a position in 1901 with P. J. Moran and assisted in the building of the big Cottonwood conduit and other works of Mr. Moran until taken sick.  He was sick for about two months and died on April 18, 1913 at age 60.  At the time of his death he was survived by his wife and six children, 16 grandchildren, four brothers and six sisters, all residing in Salt Lake City.

Happy Anniversary Andersons

How can ten years possibly have flown by.  Congratulations to Katie and Dallin.  What an amazing 10 years it has been.  We love you both so much and are so thankful that Jeff had the inspiration to line you up and that you two had the revelation to proceed with forming an Eternal Family.  Thought you might enjoy some of the pictures we don't post every year (or in case you were on your mission or not part of the family at the time) to reflect on what things have and have not changed over the years.
That family shot has changed a little bit.

Missing Grandpa Cornwall

So thankful for Paisley, what a beautiful baby.  Happy that some other  cousins have come to join the family.
Thankful that my mom is still around and looks just the same!!!

Lots has happened with this beautiful and handsome bunch!!
Just for fun!!
