Mom's Birthday - Act IV

Presents & PEZ
Finally we all got home at about 6:00pm and Mom opened her presents. The highlights are.
  • New telephone with 3 handsets (Mom has worn out the old ones talking to you kids all the time.)
  • External 200 GB hard drive on which all these and all our fun pics will be back-up stored.
  • Some new clothes (of course).
  • PEZ - Sleeping Beauty (Aurora) & Little Mermaid (Ariel) to go with the Disney Princess Set (of Jasmine, Belle, and Cinderella) we started last year. A glow in the dark halloween cat (new for 2006). And Open Season, MOC (yes Robb, I actually found them at a WalMart in Riverside Co. just the day before your find. But since you blogged them first you get the credit. I intentionally held off, saving them for Mom's Birthday.) 7 new PEZ at one birthday, not a bad addition to the collection.
Mom's Birthday Act V - MHS football game against La Salle. We left with 6 minutes remaininng and Monrovia ahead 38 - 12. Marcie Hoopes brought cup-cakes and a candle to blow out and had the whole stands sing Happy Birthday.
Mom's Birthday Act VI - Fun, light dinner after the game at Applebee's.

Thanks all the fam for contacting Mom and making her feel special and loved. Jeff sent some pics and a tape we will share.

Mom's Birthday - Act II

Canyon's of Fun
Mom (with Dad) went on a birthday hike up to Monrovia falls. It included picturesque scenery and picnic breakfast of fresh peaches and melons, gourmet yogurt w/ french vanilla granola, cranberry muffin, and mango "naked" juice.
The Birthday Bash Started Early
The Seminary kids sure love Mom - Balloon filled room, scavanger hunt, decorated car...

Why is Sept 29th so important?

Oh yeah, it is a day to celebrate a special someone!

Attention all YOUNG AMBASSADOR FANS

I just heard that Anya Young is not doing YA's this year because
she was cast in the NATIONAL TOUR OF AIDA.
She sure is amazing. I miss that girl!

The Oklahoma Cast list was finally posted

Katie Anderson was cast as............................................................ANY GUESSES

Gertie Cummings

Some of you are probably asking who in the world is that. If you are at all familiar with Oklahoma she is the one with the very annoying laugh. I have been wondering what the director is tring to say.
I am happy with the part. She has the most lines besides the three female "leads." There were several girls that could have easily been cast for this role but Tim chose me which was very nice.

So that you get a better idea, I found a website that discribed Gertie this way...

GERTIE: Another flirt whose presence is always announced by her ear-piercing laugh. Like Annie, she just wants to get married to someone.

If anyone who is free the end of January we would love visitors. (Laurey's parents had just booked a cruise for that week, so please don't anyone book a cruise!!!!!)

More Parties for Dad!!

Tonight the Monrovia Ward Youth honored the old Bishopric and welcomed the new Bishopric with a dinner and tributes. Rick Bird was behind the barbeque so we had chicken, potatoes, salad and Texas sheet cake. They gave dad and me a beautiful framed picture of the Savior as the Good Shepherd. It was a great night. We have the greatest youth in the church.

Brandon and Hillary

Emily Miller joined our seminary gang this morning. She will be in Sister Miramontes' class. I asked Shauna about Hillary and she informed me that she had started a blog about her college life. It was so fun to read about her world - it sounded familiar - "Y Groups", parties with Book of Mormon class, baking things on the uplights around the bell tower and of course the games. I copied this picture of my two past students. It looks like they are adjusting well to Cougar life. This picture made me smile!!!

Tuesday & the Temple

It was the first Tuesday - since Sarah was 6 years old - that I was not doing Temple Recommend interviews. So, it seemed like a good evening to go USE my temple recommend. It was nice!

The USU game

Here is a picture of me holding the coveted sideline pass that gets me onto the field for the games, it makes someone of insignificance feel very significant.
Me declaring that BYU is number one in my mind as well as I am BYU's number one fan, I don't think that I could be any more involved with the game unless I wiped their brow during the game
However the job is not all glam and luxury!! There was one time BYU scored or USU "attempted" to score and I didn't have time to put on my gloves, as a result I got a token of rememberance for the job. Even though it was small it didn't feel very good for the next little while, however I would take one on every finger to keep my job. Besides a little neosporin and a bandaid are working their magic right now, so I will be like the injured players, I will be ready by game time.

Goodbye Bishop!!!

There are a lot of people who love the Bishop. Monday morning there was this big banner on the front porch. It was from Sister Miramontes' class. The kids some some really nice things about Bishop Cornwall.

I have been stealthfully putting together dad's Bishop's books. (I gave them to him on Saturday night) He and I have thrown items into a box the past 7 1/2 years of significance from being the Bishop. I put them into some notebooks, along with scrapbooking some pictures over the years. It did make me appreciate how hard dad has worked and the things he has done and the people he has touch. It was a nice reminder of how much we love the Monrovia Ward.

Pajamas

Paisley grew out of her warm pj's a while ago which worked out well because it was hot and she only slept in a onesie anyway. Now that it is getting cooler she needed new warmer pj's so these are one pair of her new jammies. They are 12 mo. and we were surprised how well she fills them out. They might not fit when she is 12 months. She sure is cute in them. We think that shirt and pant jammies make her look older than footie pajamas.

New Monrovia Ward Bishopric

Today the Monrovia Ward had the mantle pass from Bishop Cornwall to BISHOP STEVENSON!!! He will be a great bishop!! He called as his first counselor - Craig Heslop - and second counselor - Bjorn Dodd. We love all three of these men. Dad has served for the past 7 1/2 years and we as a family have felt blessed from his service and hopefully the Monrovia Ward benefited from dad's great leadership. Dad and I both spoke in church along with our great friend Perry Hoopes and the new Bishopric. There are some bitter sweet feelings - I hope dad makes some comments about that - but we love and sustain these new men and will be praying for their success.

Here are some choices for our Broadway enjoyment; please feel free to vote in your comments. (Boys included:}) What can I say? I was inspired by Katie's comment. Plus, my post got bumped and I refuse to be outdone on my blogging comeback!
P.S. Sorry the quality is so bad!

Friday Night Lights

Dad, Rachel, Sarah and I went to the Monrovia High School Football game. The above picture is of the lit "M" - you can see it if you click on it to make it bigger. There is an unofficial "Mormon" section and it is fun to sit with them. We have four LDS cheerleaders and they are as much fun to watch as anything. You can see Randy Bell up on the tower, along with Mr. Garrison on the field. Good old names from the past. I forgot to tell Robb that I saw Daryl Fisher at last week's game - he was still as short as ever and had a child with him about half his size (I didn't ask if it was his). Rachel participated with the other ASB students to hold the banner for the CIF Champion Baseball team. That was fun. I can't believe I am including a picture of me with my eyes closed and with an apparent double chin (I will have to practice the "take your own shot" picture). It was a fun night although we lost in the very last second.
Happy Official First Day of Fall!!!I love this season! Although we may not experience the full essence of it here in So Cal, it's still BEAUTIFUL!!

Some Sad News

Carla Ann Iverson Welling

Aunt Wendy's mom passed away. The Wellings were very close to the Hodgkinson family.

Carla Ann Iverson Welling 1933 ~ 2006 Our family reverently rejoices over mom's heavenly reunion on September 20, 2006. She passed peacefully at home surrounded by her family. Carla was born May 27, 1933 to J. Grant and Mercedes Richards Iverson. She attended East High and the U of U where she was affiliated with Chi Omega and made many life-long friends. It was there she met her eternal companion, Duane B. Welling. They were married Sept. 21, 1953 in the Salt Lake Temple. She lived by her family motto, "The gospel's true and we love you" dedicating her life to her church, family and friends. She served with her husband presiding over the Iowa Des Moines Mission and in the temple presidency of the Bountiful Utah Temple. She also served in many ward and stake leadership positions including Stake Relief Society President, but perhaps her favorite calling was that of nursery leader. She loved family, friends, gardening, quilting, the Tabernacle Choir, knitting, holidays, U of U football and basketball, dipping and indulging in chocolate, missionaries, traveling, entertaining, playing the piano, being a grandma, the scriptures, the temple, and life in general. Her example and love will remain with many, including husband, Duane, children Wendy (Clark) Hodgkinson, Brad (Susan), Richard (Rosanne), Darrel (Kim), Kathy (Steve) Wilson, 26 grandchildren, six great-grand-children and brothers Craig (Charlene) Iverson and Scott (Gloria) Iverson. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 25, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. in the Mueller Park Stake Center, 1800 East Mueller Park Road (1800 South). Friends may call Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful and Monday from 9-10:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Bountiful Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the LDS missionary fund. The family would like to express gratitude to Dr. Chris Jackson and to so many who have offered prayers, love and support.

We all loved Carla Welling. I had forgotten until recently that she was my first piano teacher. I don't remember anything really specific about those lessons, but I do remember her being loving and kind. She has treated me that way every time I have seen her over the past 30 years.

All about the Allsops

When the girls arrived home from school today there was someone following them up the front steps (actually two someones) Fred and Connie Allsop. They are down in Southern California for Connie's niece's wedding. They decided to make a trip to Monrovia and I was so excited that they stopped by the house. They had already been by their old house and thought Monrovia hadn't changed too much - maybe spruced up just a little bit. We got caught up on each other's families - although I think I did most of the talking. Jentry is going to school in Salt Lake and drives down every day with Fred, Megan and her husband Dave are living with Fred and Connie while their house is being built, and Carly and Dave are also home owners. How did all you little kids get so big. I thanked Connie again for teaching me how to french braid hair - she has no idea how many times I still braid hair. We love the Allsops.

Nap Time

Paisley sleeps in lots of crazy positions. Today when I went to get her up from her morning nap, this is what I found. She is so cute!
