Almost fully furnished

We got a little carried away at DI, We started the day going to a couple of yard sales with not much luck. Then went to DI and came home almost fully furnished. We needed a dresser, it has been "around the block" but the inside of the drawers are clean and there is a lot of drawers plus Marybeth talked them down.
This is Marybeths ultimate favorite piece. She would not leave it as soon as she saw it. Anytime we left someone had to stay with it. I asked her what need it filled that we lacked, let's just say that it fills any and all needs, she mentioned them all. She said something about baskets and what not. Who knows what it will be used for but it is going to be great. There were quite a few people that walked by that really wanted this, but it already has the SOLD sign on it.
Why stop now? I really liked this, It is a little weathered but the good news it will match our end tables that are weathered. It is really dusty and needs some cleaning, but I think it will work out just great. The side selves are perfect for DVD's or other things. Marybeth talked them down on this as well. The total for all of these was $50, and there is a really nice kitchen table with chairs in our complex that we are claiming for free. It needs work but it is free and in good condish.

One step closer

For those of you not aware we have a new soccer team. Some old faces but a lot of new ones. The regular season we had just about everything, a team that forfeited a loss and a win. We were in the upper division, but never really had our team on the "same page" We got what we hoped for, we were pumped down and we are ranked first in that division. Can you see Marybeth there in the background? She has played so well.
We had our first tournament game and we finally had our whole team there. We won 4-1 and had a great showing. This pic features our very own Defensive MVP Jeff the man Cornwall. He has kept us in all the games. What would we do with out him.
Our next game is this Wednesday at 6pm, the funny thing is if we win we play the next day Thursday at 6pm. I hope we win, but it takes a few days for me to recover after we play so it will be interesting to see how it goes. We have an amazing team!!! We do have so bad news. Tyler our fearless goalie, in the last game broke/fractured his wrist/hand again. However there is a guy on the team that loves playing goalie so we lucked out there. But we are not stopping until we get a T-shirt. Oh and bytheway, our team name is GOALS R US we finally lived up to it this last game.

The MEN OF LA MANCHA

The fortuitous hand of fate had an e-mail, not intended for Dad, end up on his desk at work regarding all the great youth from the La Canada Wards in their current High School musical production. So Dad took two Monrovia cuties, Rachel and Sarah, on a date last night to see the show. It was a wonderful production and the 336 cuties lived their Impossible Dream to meet a fine man or two of La Mancha/La Canada.

Home Decor

We also spent some time improving our home decor. We have had two of these dining room chairs since we were married and decided to reupholster them. Our selections in McPherson we very limited but we were able to find a cute color patter to match the rest of the living room.
Before

After

I also thought it would be fun to make some of my own wall hangings. I had a lot of fun making these beautiful pictures for my walls and fireplace mantle.

I have a few more vases to pick up and then the mantle will be completely accessorized. I'll post a picture once it is completely finished. The family tiled I made a while ago at a super Saturday, the tall paisley prints are what I made this morning before mom and dad took off.

New Lights!

Well we have had too much fun (video coming soon) and now it is time to work! We started with the outdoor lights. All three of our outdoor lights were brass and so we exchanged them for black wrought iron lights! I think they look beautiful and one more thing to help modernize our cute home!

PROGRESS PERSONALLY

Last night was Arcadia Stake Young Women Recognition. It was an evening that the Cornwall women were given opportunities to serve. Rachel was the accompanist. Sarah was the chorister. Sarah and Sister Guerrero sang a beautiful duet (Mom accompanied). Then Mom was the keynote speaker on the topic of Personal Progress. Mom shared the history of young women programs clear back to the days of Brigham Young and how the program has evolved from the early 2oth century... when "Beehives" classes were "swarms" and one of the requirements was actually to tend a real beehive. She continued through her own program and shared her own goals as a young woman. Then Mom answered the question of why progress, progress for each person personally is such a key element of the gospel. Mom and the girls did wonderfully.

The first of many trips to 7 Peaks

We finally got to go to 7 peaks. Bad weather canceled the previous two Grand Openings so Tuesday was the big day and we were not about to pass it up. We stuck with a head shot as to not see the white tone that we have from the winter months
These shorts make look familiar. Jeff got a pass as well. Even though he swam earlier today in the BYU pool he took the time to enjoy opening day with us.

A little bowling

For Marybeths Birthday we went bowling. Our cousin gave us two starving student cards (b/c we sells them) and it had free bowling and we took advantage of that. Look at that form huh?
We had a lot of fun with our camera as you can see. There were a lot of fun colors to play around with. This is Mbs new purse that you may have seen before.Marybeth was really good. She had a great game and we had a great time
Here is another fun picture. Marybeth just has a very could eye for this sort of thing

I Had To

Considering the recent dearth of posts, this will probably seem slightly more appropriate than during normal blogging periods. I know some have seen it, but I still laugh just thinking about it.

Purse by Jeff

Well it is the moment you have all been waiting for. Here is the purse that I made from supplies purchased only from Home Depot. Hope you like it. Also I left the handle big because you can always make it smaller. I think I will cut it some, but I need opinions on how much.

Fun Filled Day

Yesterday was the first full day with the Whelchel's and we sure filled it up! We sent Jason off to work with a hug and a kiss and we left for a fun filled day. We started our day heading up to Salina. We went shopping at a couple of the stores we don't have in McPherson.
Paisley got a backpack that will become her 72 hour kit/flight kit. It has wheels so she will be able to pull her things in case we have to leave after an emergency. It ended up seeming very appropriate that we bought it yesterday since we had a tornado watch for 9 hours yesterday evening until early this morning. All who have been to Kansas know how well I handle those kinds of situations (not very well, for those of you that don't know).

Then with the help of the Whelchel's GPS we headed to a local park for a picnic. It was a very nice park with a couple cute bridges and nice picnic tables. We had a very fun time at lunch.
We then continued northeast toward Abilene Kansas. There we first stopped at the Russell Stover Chocolate factory and outlet store. It was an incredible site. There were thousands of boxes of chocolates for crazy prices like 4 for $9.99. Probably needless to say we bought a few.
We ended our day in Abilene at the Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum. We checked the movie of Dwight D. Eisenhower's life and presidency. Then we toured his childhood home. It was all very interesting. We sure like Ike!

We had a great first day with the Whelchel's. Today as soon as Jason gets home from work we will jump in the car and head off for a fun Memorial Day weekend in Omaha Nebraska. Stay tuned for some fun highlights of that trip!

Bitter Sweet Day

Yesterday Elizabeth and I were about to pick up Dallin for lunch when we heard fire trucks and four pulled into our apartment parking lot. I looked out the window and what did I see... an apartment on fire. It looks like it was only one apartment and it wasn't our building so luckily no damage to us, but it was scary to think that it easily could have been.

Last night I went to book club and on my way home at 10:00pm I called Dallin to see how it had gone with Elizabeth and to my great surprise she was still awake but for a very good reason. Dallin and Elizabeth had been walking around the apartment for two hours. When I opened the front door I experienced one of those priceless moments as a mother, Elizabeth walked to me from the bedroom and gave me a big huge. It was so precious. She is growing up so fast.

PS Sorry about the different camera angels.

It's Official

I will be speaking at the 2008 graduation.

THE ARK....& INDIANA

I bet everyone was so excited to say they saw INDIANA JONES... on the day it opened. Another great Seminary Video to entertain our friends at the Friend to Seminary Breakfast.

FRIEND TO SEMINARY BREAKFAST

The famous "Mormon Breakfast" was this morning, put on by that famous Mormon Seminary Teacher of teachers... our Mom. (There was a great kitchen crew of Hoopes, Stevensons, R. Menlove, R. Seeley, H. Luschek, the sister missionaries and for clean up - Pres. and Sister Owen.)
It was the traditional, can't be beat ,breakfast burritos, fresh strawberries, o.j., and sweet rolls. Yummy! The 120-130 kids ate all 30 dozen eggs.
Our Mom is amazing to put this event on every year.

New Carpet

We had a very fun surprise of a project today! A few month's back some friends re-carpeted their daughters room. Since the carpet they were getting rid of was still relatively new they gave it to us. We have been storing it in the garage waiting until we were ready to have it installed. Today I decided to call around and just get an estimate of what it would cost to have it installed. I found out that it wasn't very expensive and one of the places said they could do it this afternoon, so we said ok!
We cleared out Paisley's room and got one last picture of the blue shag carpet. This picture does not do it any justice.
This is the new carpet all installed. It is so pretty! Tomorrow we will have it cleaned and then Paisley can move back into her room. For now her stuff is partly in the living room and her crib is in the guest room. Paisley loves her new carpet and can't wait to dance all over it!
