Carol Smith Evans

I have some sad news to post. My Aunt Carol - my mom's only sister - died last night. This is the mother of Gordy and Guy. My mom was able to get up to Salt Lake before she passed away. This picture on the left - although small - shows that beautiful smile which was ever present. She loved to laugh, she loved her family and (a direct quote from Terri Larsen) truly loved unconditionally. I'm still in a little bit of shock. I am thinking of going to funeral which will be next Tuesday, March 7th. I'm not sure of the exact time of the funeral, but I am hoping to see you Provo kids, either at the funeral or maybe you could come to Clark and Wendy's Tuesday night. I have very fond memories of being one of "Carol's Girls". She only had two boys and Terri, Barb and I really became her girls. I remember her giving us Christmas presents right up until the time I got married. I particularly remember this beautiful pair of red silky pajamas with a ruffle around the capri length pajama bottoms and around the neck. Barb and I were matching that year. Christmas was always fun around her house - we always had big celebrations because it was Guy's birthday on Christmas Eve and Carol's birthday on Christmas Day. She always laughed and joked that she and Jesus shared a birthday. I always thought that Grandma and Grandpa Smith were so clever to name her Carol. She and Ray took us boating, took care of us, fed us and partied with us. I remember going to her house and having a barbeque in her back yard. We were having corn on the cob and I was having a little trouble eating because my two front teeth were loose. She was working at a dentist office at the time. She took me into the bathroom to take a look and ended up pulling both of them out - but without pain or drama. She will be missed - especially by me.

  1. I am really sorry to hear that. Was it all of a sudden, was it expected, how did she die? I never heard she was doing poorly. That would be fun to see you.

  2. P.S. it might have been the only picture you have of her but it is really old as if you couldn't tell I never have seen her with dark hair

  3. It was very sudden. My mom got a call that Carol wasn't feeling well on Tuesday. Wednesday Guy called and told my mom she might want to come up to Salt Lake. She was going to drive with Gordy who has recently relocated to Phoenix. They were going to drive Thursday, Carol said, you better fly I don't think I can last until evening and so all of them flew up at noon and she died around 5:00 or 6:00. A great way to go. Could I see you on Tuesday?

  4. Aunt Carol was a warm and happy person. The first big Hodgkinson family party was in her basement in Salt Lake. She always made you feel welcome and a part of the family.

p.s. Who is that skinny guy standing next to Grandpa H.

  5. Mom, I am glad that you posted that, I didn't know most of the stuff that you said. I am glad that it was a smooth passing. What a great end to a great life.
