mont st. michel

This is the second most visited location in France besides the eiffel tower. It was built by the Romans, and then turned into an Abbey and inhabited by monks. And now - a major tourist location with museums and shops and loads of people.
It was originally an island, but the water is seeping away so that in 20 years it won't be an island at all. Well for some reason, the French want it to stay an island, so the government is spending 63million euros to build a dam that it will keep it an island . . . wahoo.
It's amazing to turn a bend in the middle of nowhere and see this HUGE castle out in the water. It's wicked cool.
Mont St. Michel has actually never been taken. It's a pretty strong stronghold. I also heard that this was the inspiration for JRR Tolkien's Minas Tirith in Return of the King . . . hmmm-chouette.
Because the water comes up so high onto land during high tide, the grass is really salty. Thus when the grazing sheep graze upon said salty grass, they themselves become salty, and when eaten, it's a real delicacy to have sheep "pré salé."
Lovely windows. It's a little dungeou-esque. Lots of stone.
This place is sweet.
Camille, cutie.
Pretty day, we had a great day. There was trouble getting there, but we were all very glad that we ended up going.
I'm a pretty mermaid, hooray.

What a spectacular site. I'm glad you went too. What a beautiful scenic spot to explore.
In case you wanted to ask, "And now do you like my hat?" I respond, "I do! What a hat. I like that hat!", and la cute femme in it.

  4. I really don't want to leave a comment after dad's very cute comment, Rachel's response and Marybeth's sweet complimentary words, but I want to let Rachel know how happy I am for her to visit all these wonderful places.
