i'm just going to do it - food, lots of it.n

These photos were taken over the past three weeks, so it may seem like a lot, and actually - it is, we like to live it up around here.
Meet la religieuse. Literally, it means "the nun" due to the striking resemblance. It's a cross between an éclair and a crème puff. This is one of the best in all of Paris (they're sold all over.) The inside is the most delicious chocolate cream you can imagine!

le Mont Blanc. This is a specialty of "Angelina" (though they're really known for their hot chocolate, heaven in a cup!) The top is a hazelnut-creamy-spread-stuff, and inside is more cream. The bottom (you can see it through the paper) is a piece of meringue. It was essentially pure sugar, and I couldn't finish it (surprising i know.)
This was actually just picked up on a whim one night at the pâtisserie off the chatou-croissy metro exit. The bottom was a cakey-shortbread with cream and this crispy/nutty layer on top sprinkled in powdered sugar. It was actually quite delicious.
Fallafel! Le Quartier Juif is lined by tons of falafal places competing for business. Falafal is a fried ball or patty made from spiced chickpeas and/or fava beans
This one was served in a pita with vegetables and a yogurt sauce. This was a lot of joy for 5 euros.
And here is my first vraie expérience with sushi, and I loved it! I crave it all the time. Essentially it's sticky rice pillars with a slab of raw fish dipped in soy sauce and wasabi . . . so fantastic.
This is from a little place in le quartier latin called Cosi. It's on this delicious toasty flat bread, smotherd in d'aubergine fromage (cheese,) with caramelized onions and roast beef. Plus the location is great - it's tucked away in a small street (though all the streets here are small) and on the second level you can see all the people passing by below.
And this is a mille-feuille (say it mille - foy.) It's kind of like baclava's french sister; a pastry made of several layers of puff pastry alternating with a sweet filling, typically pastry cream, but sometimes whipped cream, It's kind of fantastic.
Here we have Amorino's gelato. Truly a work of art. I got chocolate (dark of course) with pistachio and raspberry. Quelle joie!
This is from our favorite pâtisserie on the corner. I saw it, and on sheer impulse bought it. It was frankly one of my favorites that I've had since I've been here.

Other delicacies who were not fortunate to have their picture taken: a crêpe with ham and cheese, a slice of flan (i love it dearly,) and a tart with tomatoes and onions in it.

  1. Now, what would your travel abroad experience have been like if there were just wonderful places to see, unique scents to smell, memorable textures to touch and interesting sounds and accents to hear? I wonder!

  2. Oh the food, food, food, food. WOW!!!!! The le mont blanc was just how you described it. (The falafal looked pretty fantastic too - especially with that cucumber sauce). I would like just one taste of all of those. The cream in those look just wonderful.
