We just got back from Stake Conf. It was a satelite broadcast from Salt Lake that went to 41 So. Calif. Stakes. So Jason & Stefanie, and Grandpa C., and Chris and Janell all had the same conference with Pres. Monson and Elder Perry (and wife) and Elder Koelliker of the 70 (and wife). Oh, the Church is a marvelous organization of which to be a part.I want to just mention the points from Elder Perry's talk. He spoke on the scripture admonishing us to be a "peculiar people" focusing on one of the definitions of peculiar being "distinctive". Some try so hard to fit into the ways and the look of the world. The ways LDS should be distinctive from the world be counseled are: 1)In our belief in Jesus Christ and the power of the atonement, 2) The language we use --- and the profane words we don't use, 3) Our integrity --- holding to high standards, 4) Our homes should reflect our being distinctive --- included in our homes should be: a) Priesthood, b) Mother's Role upheld, c) Prayer, d) Study of the Scriptures, e) Learning to work, play and serve. As we make ourselves distinctive in following our own LDS standards, Elder Perry promised the Lord will pour out his blessings upon us.
One funny thing happened as we were exiting Stake Conf. 2 rows ahead of us were the Browns, a couple serving in the Arcadia Mission from Clark and Wendy's ward in Bountiful. They had a couple with them we did not recoginize but the woman turned around and waved and smiled real hard at our row. As they walked by at the end this sister shook my hand real firmly and said, looking at Rachel (who appeared stunning in her turtleneck sweater dress), "Oh, your daughter looks just like CLARK". Then the unknown sister walked on.
ReplyDeleteI must say, Rachel had quite a look of astonishment and chagrine of her face when I told her.
Wow rach-bach what a compliment!!! It sounds like you had a really great conference I am glad to hear that it went so well.
