It Was A Cold First Night!!!

After Katie's Concert on Friday night, Mom, Dad, Robb, Marybeth, Rachel and Sarah headed back to the cabin. The exciting thing about this trip was watching the temperature change on the car thermometer. It kept dropping and dropping and dropping. The low point was -7 degrees as we were getting close to the cabin. Our car is always a few degrees high - so dad and I predicted that it was probably right around -10. We only had a couple of flashlights - but the moon really saved us as we walked into the cabin. It gave a whole new meaning to "The moon on the crest of the new fallen snow gave a luster of midday to objects below". It was really light although some of us were keeping our heads down just hoping we could walk that far in the cold. Some of us were worrying about bears grabbing us and carrying us into the forest without a trace, some of us were pumping the manual flashlight (one of the two). When we got to the cabin it was still very very cold. Fortunately we made it through the night with the help of electric blankets (not for Robb) and by Sunday afternoon we were so hot we told dad to turn off the heater. Oh what a difference a few days make.
