$10 Art

For my 3D design class our first assignment was learning about scale. To accomplish this, we were required to create a piece as large as we could with only 10 dollars. I created this piece below with seven 2"x 1"x 8' pieces of wood at 75 cents each, metal bracket supports, wire, and 25 trash bags fused together with an iron.  Specifically, it is a five sided, inverse pyramid with the tip (bottom) cut off and a diagonal slice off the base (top). The dimensions are approximately 7' X 10'. My planning involved a lot of geometry. It was fun to bust out those 'ol equations: sin, cos, tan and such. I felt it was quite successful.  It was one of the largest (if not THE largest) and one of the better designs (in my professional opinion).

  1. You were not exaggerating when you told me how much your project rocked Jeffery. It turned out really, really great. I'm not sure if it looks better in photos or in person, but the pictures look really cool. The trash bags turned out great. I still would like to see it with a changing color light source inside and have it out in the middle of some round-about somewhere. (Don't do it Jeff. I'm just imagining.) Great job.

  2. Jeff, I remember hearing about this assignment and I am amazed at the output. How did you get it to class or did you just show pictures. It doesn't surprise me that you had the largest and best design.
