Well, I'm here. Yes, I am in Paris and it's amazing, it's all I wanted it to be, and I confess that I am feeling this crush coming on strong. My roommate is not Camille . . . I"m kinda bummed, but I'm excited. More on that later.
The flight was great; I got two meals (both a wee gross) and I snoozed and watched a movie or two, and chatted with the two American ladies sitting to the left of me. They were headed to Venice for a wedding. I got off with Angela, a girl from the program who was thankfully on the same flight. We waited around the baggage claim area for another girl, but couldn't find her so we hopped in a taxi with this sweet little asian man. It was a quiet ride and Angela was feeling a little nauseous, but I was surprised at how very unsurprising the atmosphere seemed; there was graffiti and trash trucks, and we found the hotel just fine (and it only cost a grand total of 40 euros - split in two.) There was a big bundle of girls in the lobby, and we sat around a bit until we decided we were hungry and headed off to a little cafe where I ordered a margarita pizza and was very complimented on my french. The hottie waiter asked if I was a french student -woot! So after that all the girls wanted me to talk to him. Delicious pizza by the way.
We are getting ready to check into the hotel and then head off on our boat ride . . . where I'll probably see all the sites that have made me swoon the past . . . oh 19 years - hehe.
Okay, there's the best update that I can get out right now. I love you all and I am so grateful for everyone's love and support and well wishes!
A bientot
(oh and at the airport, a lady asked if Angela and I spoke french, and we took her to the "sortie." - look it up!)
Well let me be the first to say - Merveilleux, Vous êtes heureux en toute sécurité. I am so glad to hear the flight went well. (Now you know why the big gripe about the loss of food on airlines is kind of ironic.) I tracked the flight on a flight tracker site as you went over Montana, Ontario, Quebec, Newfoundland, Greenland and then the site dropped you as you switched to the European side of the "pond".
ReplyDeleteThe taxi ride turned out good. That was the biggest concern we all had. I'm glad you met up with a study-abroad-buddy. Oh, we can hardly wait to see you as the main subject in those scenes that inspired all those impressionist painters a century ago. We want to see pictures so don't get so enamored with Nikon that you forget to get a few postables with the digital.
Ahemmm, watch out for those french waiters.
Nous vous aimons.
I am enjoying the giant sign of relief that I just gave when I saw the post. I knew that everything would be fine, but it is still nice to have you there safely.
ReplyDeleteI love the running commentary on your comings and goings and I am looking forward to many many more.
I guess you speaking French to yourself under your breath has really paid off.
LOVE YOU
How exciting to have more running commentary from Paris to look forward to!
ReplyDeleteYAY! This blog should never have a lull again with you being in Paris! I am so excited! Keep us posted! And I bet that waiters name was Pierre!
