I got to take a little side trip from Kansas (though I was rather sad to leave) to go to Provo to audition for the revered Young Ambassadors. My audition was Friday evening. Everything went pretty well, indicated by the fact that I got a CALL BACK for Saturday morning!

Auditions were in the KMB, but call backs were in the brand spankin' new Richards building (it was the first time any YA's had practiced in there.) First, we sang a piece that we had brought {32 bars of The Wizard and I} and then we auditioned three dances: #1-Dancing Through Life , #2-Whitney Houston's I Wanna Dance With Somebody (by the way, this one was AMAZING, so much fun!) and #3-The Audition from A Chorus Line (which we learned at the initial audition.) Lastly, Randy Boothe taught us some solos from the current YA show, and each girl sang them by herself. It was an amazing experience.
THE STATS: 240 people auditioned {don't know the boy/girl ratio}
- 23 girls were called back {and 19 guys, but that doesn't matter as much.}
-There ended up being a few more ladies at the call backs because any past YA's don't have to audition, but can just come to the call backs.
-There are 26 spots open: 13 girls and 13 boys
-There is a very,
very good
possibility that the 7 alumni YA ladies will be accepted {and for very good reason.} Thus about 5-6 open spots remain
-I was one of the very youngest, as far as I know, I was the only one who would be a freshman in the fall of '08.

The list will be posted some time around this Saturday.
Rach, We are really proud of you:
ReplyDeleteA) Flying to Salt Lake from Wichita by yourself... and with your Airline declaring bankruptcy, bunches of planes being grounded for inspections, winter storm delays and the infamous light bulb problem = 5 hour delay.
B) Obviously "nailing" your audition... including last minute "bar" adjustments.
C) All by yourself warming up, getting to call-backs and doing-your-thing in dance and song.
We are proud, so proud of you... and that with all the excitement in Provo you are still willing to come back to hum-drum 336 with us.
YEAH!!!! Rachel! I am so proud of you and that is a huge accomplishment. I will be on pins and needles until the cast list is posted. Robbie and Jeffers I think you are going to have to help out on this one because Rachel is in California.
ReplyDeletePS I just looked at the list of names and I only recognized 2 names. It means that my time in the MDT/YA world is come and gone. I am pretty sure the Knell girl is Greg Knells sister. (He did YA's with me and married Mimi.)
ReplyDeleteOf course I want to come back to good ol' 336.
ReplyDeleteRachel - only those in the know know what a huge accomplishment that is. We are so incredibly proud of you!!!!
