The first coat of drywall taping/finishing ("mudding") is done. This is a 3 - 5 coat process. It is a skill that takes a lot of practice (of which Dad has almost none).
We left the old plaster above the fireplace. Half of it is brick underneath which would have been tough to drywall. Hopefully patching will work well enough.
