A Bit of Family History

Discovered some new information this week.  While I was clearing out my recipe books (part of the purge) I found a cookbook that I received from my cousin Guy Evans.  It is my Aunt Carol's favorite recipes (we are a lot alike in that department) and her personal history mixed in between.  Most of it is about her early life, life with her parents and grandparents - YEAH!!!  She was known to have a terrific memory. The following is from her personal history:

"My Father was Leslie Ilo Smith.  He was born April 16, 1905 in Murray, Utah.  My Grandfather was on a mission and his first baptism was a man named Ilo.  So when my dad was born while Grandpa was still on his mission, they named him Ilo Leslie Smith, but my Dad said that wasn’t right so he always went by Leslie I. Smith."

I called Rachel to tell her the big news (because of her ILO) and she asked where Manasseh Smith had gone on his mission.  I started digging around and found a great new resource on LDS.org.  I was able to find the following  missionary information about Manasseh Smith.

  • Set Apart: 25 October 1904
  • End Date: 8 March 1906
  • Priesthood office: Elder
  • Priesthood: Elder
  • Called From: Murray, Salt Lake, Utah, United States
  • Set apart by: Rulon S Wells

We still want to find out some more information about the Ilo from the Eastern States Mission!!!
