Palmyra, NY

We had a wonderful, wonderful trip to Palmyra a few weeks ago.  It was so lovely.  It was nice to explore Palmyra and spend some quality time with our wonderful cousins!
We enjoyed seeing the Smith Family farm.

We loved all the little details!
The herbs and plants about the hearth are just exquisite.
I have been looking for a place in my house to add this decor.  I love it!

Upstairs in the log home we heard more about the family and the Book of Mormon.  The sister missionary we were with asked all of the kids what their favorite scripture story was.  Bennett said, Helaman, Ammon and Captain Moroni.  Emary said, "Abish" (such a great story as well) although I was surprised a little - I am glad she is listening to the scriptures when we read and talk about them.

We visited a few years ago when Sara was baptized and I had been really struck by the relationship between Alvin and Joseph.  I loved seeing "Alvins Home" again.  He had started building it for the family before he passed away. There is a tree that is very old that they talk about possibly being a tree they planted for Alvin (only speculation but I love the thought of it!)
The barn was lovely as well.

The Grove was peaceful and full of color and beauty.

We drove over to the temple and enjoyed the grounds.

On our last visit we didn't stop at the Whitmer Farm. I was glad we stopped there this time.  It was fabulous! There is a terrific video at the visitors center about the growth of the church that was really touching.

Alvin's Home also had this wonderful display.  I love it!
We had a terrific time in Palmyra and can't wait to go back again.
We also enjoyed the Hill Cumorah Visitors center and Hill itself.  There is so much to see.
We hope we can get there this summer for the pageant.

  1. How great that you are that close and take the time to see those special places and think and teach about the special events and people associated with them. What beautiful fall days!

  2. I LOVE seeing photos of the five of you together! You guys are such a beautiful bunch. And this trip looks so, so lovely. I love the detail shots of the Smith Farm and hearing about the kids favorite scripture stories. The shot through the barn is so cool and the capture of all the kids from behind is so cute! I have to say, the family photo in front of the temple is so classic, I love it. We can't wait to see you guys next summer! We are dying to see all those kids who are growing up way too fast (especially Alden!!!) Thanks for posting. We could never get enough pictures/updates from you guys!
