ON THE JOB

Today we are going to feature four great men who bear the name of Player for our On The Job Post.  The Players are on my maternal side as you can see in the fan below.  Above is Charles Fredrick Player.  He was a farmer.  He and his family were one of the founders of the city of Bennion which later was named Taylorsville. My mom remembers that he would work so hard and then come in and sit in special chair in the kitchen in his overalls.  He wasn't very talkative but a hard worker.  (My mom loved him and that chair so much that when he died she asked for the chair and it is in her kitchen today).

This is Charles Warner Player.  He was a contractor and builder.

Above is Charles Warner Player Senior and below is William Warner Player.  They joined the church in England.  William had been a stone mason in England and a lay preacher.  That is where they had heard the missionaries and were later baptized.  William took his family, including Charles Sr. to Nauvoo to join the saints.  William and Charles were assets in building the Nauvoo temple.  As a matter of fact, Brigham Young came to William and asked him to carve the baptismal font for the Nauvoo temple.  It had first been constructed of wood and now it was going to be carved out of stone with the font on the back of 12 oxen.  William Warner Player directed that work.  When the saints were forced to move West William and Charles, with their families also went.   They both worked on the Salt Lake Temple.  William worked until he was too ill to continue and Charles worked until it was completed.  When we are in the Nauvoo Temple next summer we can contemplate that our ancestors had a lot to do with the sacred place and work.
