- First take turkey dogs (they must be turkey dogs) and slice vertically, all the way through the dog stopping the incision about an inch from each end. Now place a 2nd vertical slice 90 degrees rotated from the first, again stopping about an inch from each end.
- Next prepare non-lean ground beef with your choice of seasoning, including diced onions, Worcestershire sauce, bacon bits, etc... Roll ground beef around a 3/8" square stick of cheddar cheese to form a torpedo of hamburger a little fatter than the diameter of the dog and two inches shorter.
- Insert the ground beef tube into the slices of the hot dog kneading it until the ground beef oozes out of each side of the dog. The cross section of the ground beef is squeezed into the form of a "+". You now have a pregnant dog.
- Grill as you would a regular hot dog. The dog being turkey does not tend to burn while the ground beef cooks. Being non-lean, the grease in the ground beef helps cook the dog and the ground beef.
- Serve in a hot dog bun with condiments to your liking.
A bit of effort, but the reward is so worth it! Thanks Swansons. This certainly not the last time HamDogs grace the Cornwall grill.
