With Jeff's conference being held so close to Zion's, we decided we would take every opportunity we could to go exploring. After his classes on Friday we hopped in the Subaru for another day in the park. After weighing our options and taking into consideration the fading daylight, we decided to go for a shorter hike. In a fortuitous turn of events, we decided to first drive through the mile-long tunnel that takes you right through the mountainside. It was built in the 1930's and featured several cutout "windows" that would allow brief glimpses of the scenery. The tunnel was so dark, which made the brief flashes of daylight a fun part of the drive. Upon exiting the tunnel, we noticed a small parking lot and a few people starting up trail. We decided to find out what hike this would take us on and it happened to be the the Canyon Overlook Trail. It is a mild 1-mile roundtrip path with especially beautiful landscape and an incredible endpoint. Jeff and I both agree this hike is probably the best bang for your buck in Zion's. With how short of a hike it is, the reward for reaching the end is pretty amazing. It is the perfect choice for a quick outing if you don't have time or if the party includes those who aren't so big into strenuous hiking. We are so happy to have discovered this gem of the park and loved getting to [again] experience the beauty of God's creations together. Our time in Zion National Park was so enjoyable and certainly very memorable.

Oh, how beautiful. Another location to add to my bucket list.
ReplyDeleteYou guys know how to 'rock' a hike. That is great you were still able to get a few strides in on what was already and very full, fun day with Grandma and Grandpa.
ReplyDeleteDad - why is it that we always hurry past Zions to get to Provo??
