Philmont

Sarah was telling me the other day of a summer camp that she was applying for this summer.  It is located in New Mexico and sounded really great.  I told her to send me the link so that I could check it out.  It turns out it is for Philmont Scout Camp.  I had gone there as a seven-year old.  My dad was a member of a Stake Presidency and was going there to be scout certified.  Sarah - that could be you in the above picture.  (How could it be so cold in New Mexico in July???)  I don't remember anything about the trip, except from what my folks have told me.  Apparently, there had been an extensive flood a few days before we left.  There had been so much damage they weren't sure they were going to hold camp.  They did, but there was no potable water.  As a seven year old it didn't bother me at all - but I guess it was a big thing for people who liked to drink water, use the bathroom or shower.

The picture below is the day I got interviewed to be baptized.  I think our bishop took the picture.  The t-shirt was my souvenir from the trip - but I guess I thought that shirt was special enough to have my baptism interview in it!!

  1. These photos are so great. It awesome that you grew up in that era. I love periodic clothing. That camp leader looks like one fun woman. I also love the shirt at the baptismal interview. Grandpa reminds me of Sean Connery's James Bond.

  2. I would have picked her as the cutest of the bunch and the girl for me even when she was seven.
