STACK!

Here we go, the least fun new-house-post imaginable: replacing the stack. In case you were wondering, the stack is the lovely fat pipe through which all your water leaves your house . . . all of it. That includes things from like, the sink, the tub and oh yeah - the toilet. As it turns out, our stack had a crack in it; see below:
We counseled with our people: dad, spencer's brother Joe, and the Home Depot employee who works on the pipes aisle. And apparently one can just cut out the uncracked portion of the cast iron pipe and replace it with pvc. Alright!

Miraculously, we were able to cut the pipe and get it out of place (without breaking anything in our electrical box no less!) (in case you were wondering, stacks only ever have water in them when there's water running upstairs, so other than the sludge that seeped out as we cut the pipe, we didn't get sprayed with anything.)
Ta da! No more crack or leaks.

  1. That's not a a crack!... that's the grand canyon. I know, I know, twice as dusty... but really, that's no joke, especially when dealing with a conduit of raw sewage and waste water. And I thought you might be saving the crappy jobs for when I get there to work on them!

Good work you old house owners... or should that be said --- young, new home owners of an old house?
