After dropping mom off a Burbank Airport at 5:30 a.m. I drove to the South Bay for a 7:30 a.m. appointment with a city agency. I had plenty of time, even by L.A. traffic standards. When I got off the Harbor Fwy I did a GPS search for a place to fill-up with petrol, wanting to kill some time.
I drove down the Blvd. and what did I see? - the above sign. It pointed down an old, well worn side street next to the Hawthorne Airport. My interest we piqued - what would a California State Historic Beach Boy Monument be in some dilapidated neighborhood in Hawthorne CA? When would I ever pass this way again?
The Beach Boy Monument - behind it is the 105 freeway. So this is place where the Surfin' USA boys grew-up and cut their first record.
Sorry you missed it Mom. I hope you are having as much fun as I am.
