One of our goals recently is taking advantage of winter. With both of us coming from warmer climates, we find it easy to complain about the cold and are always anticipating the joys of summer. We've done pretty well so far with a sleigh ride, snowshoeing and warm drinks. Adding to our list we visited the Ice Castle in Midway, UT. We went on a Monday night for Family Home Evening. It is a popular attraction, causing rather long lines. In talking about the construction the "artist" describes his process of "farming icicles." It starts with a frame of metal poles and chain link fence which is sprayed with water. The slow accumulation eventually creates the massive structures of ice. There are lots of places to explore including a maze and slot canyon. The castle also features a water fall and at night the ice is illuminated by colored lights frozen inside. It was a magical place and a wonder to behold.

Now that looks like a pretty cool activity... but seriously folks... I am betting that photography can not very well capture the magic and awesomeness of the ice forms, the colors, the magnitude and yes... definitely the coolness of the experience. How fun for you two to go experience it and give us some views.
ReplyDeleteAh-mazing - both the photos and the place. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteReally amazing. It was great that you were able to capture such isolated shots when it was apparent there was a crowd there. So happy to catch a glimpse of you two enjoying winter.
