Mom and dad left early last Friday morning for a little get-a-way to Arizona. February is a timely time to go as it is Grandma Hodgkison's birthday (later in the month). This was the best, free-est weekend for the trip.
Mom and dad stopped at one of the top rated places in Palm Springs for breakfast. (We hope that a view of an outdoor breakfast this past weekend doesn't make you folks in Missouri, Ohio, Utah or Mass. feel tooooo bad.)
A highlight of the trip was going to the new Gilbert Temple open house. The open house is all month and we were lucky enough to get tickets AND lucky enough to get them during the "slow" time of the day - between 2:30 pm and 4 pm when local families are busy picking up children from school. We walked right in and by the time we came out there were long lines. Our guide said they take 1400 - 1600 visitors through per HOUR.
I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys: I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water. (Isaiah 41:18)
The agave flower motif (as seen in the above window) is used throughout the interior of the temple, in the woodwork, the furnishings, the carpets, skylights, etc... The agave is a spikey, desert plant native to the south west.
Mom and dad stayed in Grandma's very comfortable home. There were visits with Aunt Teri and Aunt Barb and going out to dinner, attending Grandma's church and enjoying Grandma's lovely hospitality.

Wow, wow wow! What a trip. I don't know what to talk about first so I guess I'll start at the beginning.
ReplyDelete-Breakfast looks divine! I may need to hear a more detailed report about what you ordered.
-The temple photos are magnificent! My favorite is the third...did that come from the church's website or something? It is beautiful. Of course, the photos with the three of you are beautiful too.
- The mother/daughter picture is just too cute.
What a fun trip to a lovely place (perfect time of the year to go, too!)
Oh it was a fun fast trip!! We stopped at Cheeky's - a predominately breakfast joint. They change their menu every week. We decided on the breakfast quesadilla. It was rather simple (why haven't I ever thought of it) eggs, a little bacon and avocado - but that beautiful sauce - Oh My Word. I asked the waiter what was in it and he said it was some peppers and spices ground up. I kind of wanted to drink it at the end. It was nice to go sweet and savory. The sweet entree was Bagette French Toast with sauteed apples and almonds. Very very tasty. We had a great trip. As you can see my mom is just too cute. The temple was magnificent. We loved seeing Terri, Mindy and Barb. This was a good weekend for us, but a lot of the nieces and nephews were out of town - SOME IN CALIFORNIA!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful trip. We are getting so excited to see some of those same sites. Love to see pictures of mom and grandma together.
