WELL... BLOW ME DOWN

We had a bit-o wind in Monrovia last night. In fact, much of the L.A. area had VERY strong winds, up to 80 - 90 mph blasts. Among the hardest hit area was along the 210 corridor in the San Gabriel valley. 336 lost power just as Mom and Dad were getting all nestled in for their long winter's nap. . . and power is still out at this hour - 10 a.m. We are so glad we had recently updated our emergency preparedness supplies. Flashlights and emergency radios came in handy. The house shook and waved in the wind all night and dad kept getting up to re-secure window latches that had rattled loose.

The above view is is what greeted mom on her way to Seminary --- IN THE PITCH DARK.

With no power at the church and no safe access, texting came in very handy to communicate to all the Seminary kids that it was a Seminary "snow" day. Eventually we heard that all the schools in Monrovia were canceled (along with all the schools in Pasadena, Sierra Madre, La Canada, Arcadia, San Marino, San Gabriel, etc....)

Fortunately for the little Monrovia Ward building the fallen tree was from ACROSS the street
The big pine took down some large branches on the Magnolia trees in the church parkway but stopped just short of the Primary wing.
It took over an hour for Dad to drive to the office in Pasadena as all the stop lights were out. The freeway was slow too due to looky-loo drivers and a large trampoline that had apparently blown over the high block wall and sat all mangled on the freeway shoulder.
The office had a bunch of branches down and tons of leaves. You can't tell from the photo, but these limbs are as big around as your thigh and too heavy to move.
The office has power, (no "snow" day for dad) tho' most of Pasadena is out and has declared a local state of emergency.

  1. we must live close by (close enough) because we have had major wind here. The kids love it.
