NO WIND...NO POWER

Mom and Dad remain among the thousands that continue to have no electrical juice. Schools... and seminary were canceled again today. Last night was a perfect evening for cold turkey sandwiches. Hmmmm.... what to do after dinner. Ok... let's go to the mall for some shopping we have been meaning to do and where there is warmth and light. Oooops.... the mall had plenty of parking, but no warmth or light. Driving is like threading one's way along an obstacle course with many lanes blocked or partially blocked and no lights. So, going to the mall proved to not be a very wise or safe thing to do.
Mom and dad came home and did some of the last Christmas decorating by the newly fired up kerosene lanterns (that we just received a few weeks ago from great grandpa Cornwall's emergency preparedness gift card, from last Christmas, that we just got around to using.) It was very fortunate that fuel was providently provided just last Friday (Black Friday) at Home Depot. Oh, this has made for some snuggly nights as the temperature is about 40.
Mom knitted by one lantern and dad went from room to room placing decorations holding the other lantern like the conductor on the Polar Express.
The Monrovia Christmas parade and tree lighting was canceled last night due to the state of emergency and ALSO due to the Monrovia Christmas tree at the n/e corner of Library Park being no more.
Oh, boy it is a bit of a sad, irreplaceable loss to the charming downtown.

The top of the city Christmas Tree - A fallen star.

Driving to work this morning dad went down some random streets (most of the street lights remain out in town.)

Every street has scenes of a real mess.

Limbs, leaves and branches are piled everywhere.

Word is that power may not be back on until Sunday night in some areas of Monrovia. So concern has shifted from warm blankets for the bed to ice for the refrigerator/freezer. It is a tender mercy that the Provo kids cleaned out much of the refrigerator last week when they were at 336 for Thanksgiving.

  1. Whoa babah and I thought it was bad in the east. That is some pretty crazy stuff. I thought that that was totally cool that you have those lanterns and just in time. Well I hope you get power and heat back soon.

  5. I'm impressed you had the facility to blog - we just got our power a few minutes ago - almost 48 hours exactly without it - and I was ready to go to a beauty salon to get my hair washed in warm water and blow dried!!
