OREGON OUTING (2)

We awoke and celebrated Dallin's birthday, with birthday pancakes.
Then it was off for a little site seeing following the Columbia River west, down river.
First stop was in Astoria and the 'Goonie'House, where the movie was filmed.
The view from the Goonie House was quite grand looking out over the river.
The wharf was a resting spot for many dozens of sea lions catching a nap.
On the high point of the Astoria peninsula is a tall tower on which is etched the history of the town. Inside there are 169 spiral steps to the outlook at the top.
This is the 270 degree view from the top. (This panorama is actually 9 photos stitched together.) The gianormous Columbia River is on the right and the Pacific Ocean straight ahead.
Sarah was able to check-off another state visited when we crossed over the bridge at the mouth of the Columbia to the Washington State side.
The Andersons knew the perfect spot along the rugged Oregon coast to spend the afternoon.
There were a lot of fun places to explore.
We setup a fine camp and cooking fire for hot dog and marshmallow roasting.

Dallin's birthday was celebrated again with cup cakes.
Sarah loves wading in the cold Pacific waters.
When the tide went out there was passage around the point to the secluded neighboring beach with it's own waterfall.

Then we headed back to the Anderson home after a fun, full day

  1. This was a wonderful way to celebrate Dallin's birthday - although he had to plan the entire day, drive around all day, and entertain us all day. The cabin was wonderful, Astoria was charming, we even made it to Washington state for Sarah to get a new state under her belt. The coast was astonishingly beautiful. The company was great. We at 336 will remember this day forever.
