Here are my last two projects for my 3D design class. Today is the last day. I start Photography on Wednesday. I'm excited about that of course.
This is my cardboard piece. It is a very difficult medium to work with. Very Flimsy. So it tuned out okay. The project was to work with planes. The end result is not too close to my original intent. But for not working structurally to my idea, it is pretty cool.
This is my steel piece. The intent of this project was to create volume using line. I did a lot of sketches for this one. I just didn't know what I wanted to do. Then I did some research with an artist named Fred Sandback (shown below). I really liked the way he used the wall. So I wanted to use the wall as an element. Within that thinking I thought of what that could symbolize. To me it stood for Dependence on God, Family, and Friends. So then I did some sketches of a person leaning on the wall. I based my design on those sketches and then used my own body for measurements. I really like the way it turned out. Very simple, but elegant and profound in message.

Jeffrey: I can see why you are so interested in sculpture - these are fantastic. Love the beauty, love the symbolism.
ReplyDeleteJeff: I like the cardboard sculpture. Even tho' your original concept was beyond the structural integrity of cardboard, what you evolved into is a nice sculpture. Good job. That's one of the advantages of modern art - if it doesn't turn out just the way you planned it, hardly anyone will know....
ReplyDeletethis is some beautiful work Jeff!
ReplyDeleteJeff, your sculptures are more impressive then I ever imagined when we were talking today. It looks like it was a fun process to design and then create. What a great major for your creative mind.
ReplyDeleteJeffrey - dad thought this was small until I told him you put it in a room to take the picture. How tall is it?
ReplyDeleteIt is over six feet tall
ReplyDeleteAnd that is quart inch thick steel
ReplyDeleteworth the burn. love it . . . a lot. it could fit right in at the courtyard of st. sulpice where I was today. really great.
