THE "MAN" WHO CAME TO DINNER

Mom and Dad spent the evening at the thea'tahr for the MHS Fall Play. Sarah did a superb acting job, including the opening and closing lines of the show. It is a fun, funny play.

For those with thespian proclivities the story basics are: The Man Who Came to Dinner is a 1939 comedy by Kaufman & Hart. The setting is a small town of Mesalia, Ohio in the weeks leading to Christmas in the 1930s. The story revolves around an outlandish radio wit, Sheridan Whiteside of New York City who was invited to dine at the house of the rich factory owner, the blustery Ernest W. Stanley (Christine), the overly accommodating wife (Sarah) and their family. However, before Whiteside enters the house, he slips on a patch of ice outside the front door. In his several weeks of recuperating he takes over the house and everyone's life as he demeans and bombastically manipulates. He is attended to by the absent-minded town physician, and a frantic nurse. The doting secretary falls in love with the geeky local newpaper reporter. There are constant phone calls (from the rich and famous such as Walt Disney, Ghandi & the Marx Bro.s), arriving gifts (including peguins and a mummy) and telegrams and visitors from all over the world including a famous drama queen (Mariah) and a flamboyant Hollywood producer and master of impersonations (Alex). Like I said - fun and funny!

  1. Sarah was so amazing!!! MHS Drama department is now on a very tight budget and so everyone had to provide their own costumes. Sarah once again utilized the great formal collection that we have - reprising the Little Bo Peep dress and the Queen of Hearts dress - that one is a classic and it looked gorgeous on her.

    1. Sarah, your hair is so chic. I love, love the straight tapered look-it looks darling on you.
    2. Sarah, your makeup looks lovely-I'm glad to see my absence hasn't marred your beauty!
    3. Dad, Video?
    4. Mom . . . I love you.
