This last Sunday, Katie and I had the opportunity to visit my parents. We were able to contribute to the meal by providing a relish tray.
Katie and I thought it would be fun for you to try and identify what the white item (not the cauliflower) is on the relish tray.
Here it is on the cutting board.
And here it is up close. We thought it would be a great idea to give a reward for those who guess what it is. We haven't finalized what it is. However, when I asked Katie what she thought it should be she said "we'll mail them some" and then "how about a life size Pez." No guarantees! I was eating some in class today and the person on one side of me asked if it was seaweed. A little while later in a different class, a guy asked me if it was uncooked french fries. I am sorry if these were your guesses but it is none of the above. Have fun guessing
I know what it is (and how to spell it) so I will take myself out of the competition - besides I heard Katie mention it yesterday while I was talking to her on the phone - but I'll be interested to see if we have vege experts in the fam.
ReplyDeleteBy the way - the display looks great!!!
ReplyDeleteWell if I get this right you don't have to send it to me. I am going to take a guess and say it is a Shallot? I will be honest it doesn't look that good, but I am sure it is. It is just a guess so if it is wrong then no biggie. But if I did win I WILL take the life size PEZ despenzer.
ReplyDeleteShall-ot not be the answer given by Robbie I will very surprized. Thanks mom for not letting the answer "leek" out.
ReplyDeleteGreat guess! Here is a link to some pictures and a description of Shallot.

My only question is do they make shallot pez dispensers?
P.S. If you can't tell from the pictures it is not shallot.
Well that is not what they looked like at the store. I went to the store last night to get groceries and the veggie labeled "shallot" looked a lot like yours and not like the pictures on line
ReplyDeleteYou guys are weird!! Just don't bring that to MY party.
ReplyDeleteAll right, well the mystery vegetable is actually "Jicama" which is pronounced hicama. Here's another link just in case you are fascinated and want to learn more.

I also did research to see if they had jicama pez. Unfortunately, they don't yet. However, they do have pineapple and pear pez. Alas some vegetables are not as famous as others.
P.S. Rachel I bet you would like it.
