Beck Leads BYU to 55-7 Rout of Wyoming

Excerpts from article in the L.A. Times on-line.

PROVO, Utah -- After going nearly five years as an unranked team, Brigham Young made an emphatic return to the Top 25. The Cougars gained 454 yards against the top-rated defense in the Mountain West Conference and clinched a share of the league title by routing Wyoming 55-7. Beck passed for 313 yards and two touchdowns and ran for two more on goal-line dives to lead the Cougars to their seventh straight win. BYU was playing as a ranked team for the first time since the end of the 2001 season, and Cougar fans were savoring every moment on a chilly night in Provo.

  1. It would appear Robbie got a lot of action with the field goal net all night. He must be their good luck charm near the end-zone.

  2. Thanks for the post dad. I didn't go to the game but I felt like I was there because I could hear the crowd and the announcer through our window. Lets just say I heard a lot of cheering. GO COUGARS!!!!

  3. Luck charm or not, I didn't have to worry about the "coldest night in Provo" (I think it ended up being warmer then thought) I was Jumping up and down, screaming so much I couldn't stand still enough to be cold. a lot of the TD's at the beginning were "bombs" so they came unexpected, or interceptions or kick-off returns that almost made it to the endzone. I started to run to pull the net only to come back then go back only seconds later when they would pound it in. It was such a fun game. There is something about night games and something about winning. It was the best Home game so far. I just hope I am not the "lucky charm" b/c they will be without next week. GO COUGS

  4. I just did a little research, 4 of the 7 TD's were scored on my side as well as 1 of two FG's. So I was on the "good side" this week. I was also on the "almost" side. Where they almost ran the kick-off back, and almost ran the interception back.

Ok...I can't resist telling a fun story. BYU could not punch in a 2 yd run. I can't remember when in the game. But it came to 4th and 1. It seemed easy to do a QB sneek which they did once already in the game. So it got us by surprise, literally when our place kicker came on. He was almost set when we booked it to the nets. I had zero time to throw on my gloves. So I did with out. I got comments all game about pulling them up, and this one was no different. Some people around me said it would not make it. Yet I was determind and experienced. I pulled and tugged with everything I had. Let's just say a low kick was in our favor. as I let the net down I made a few comments back to the "peanut gallery" and said that was a close one. However I have build up a fairly good caliss (no idea how to speel that) my hands have "roughened" up a bit so no injury occured. The life of a net puller.

  5. I guess before I work on "bigger words" I should worry about the basics like the word "spell" for instance. I guess I was just too excited

  6. Great story Robb. I felt like I was there. Good thing you are such a fan so that you would NEVER find yourself rooting that they DON'T score because it makes you work and sometimes without your gloves.
