FOR ALL YOU BROADWAY FANS

For my History of Music Dance Theater class I have to do a research paper on Musical Theater. It can be on any part of Musical History or anything current on Broadway. Basically it can be on anything concerning musical theater.
Since we are going there in a few months, I was wondering if anyone had a topic that they would like me to do some research on so I can report before we go to the big city. If you have any ideas on a topic PLEASE make a comment, even if you think your idea isn't a good one it could spark another idea.
I would love some imput before Friday because my thesis is due then. Thanks!!!!

Here is one quick thought - Why did Broadway become Broadway? What factors made Broadway Ave. in New York the center of theater in the U.S.? Why New York? Why Broadway Ave.? And did it have competition from other theater cities/centers at an earlier age but then ended up dominating?
ReplyDeleteGreat, there is no stinkin'possible way in the wolrd of Broadway that I am going to attempt to suggest another idea after Dad. Pshaw. (He should have waited until we all tried and then presented his grand idea-as he usually does so well!) ALTHOUGH, if you really want me to suggest something, (and because I'm taking US history) what affect did the trends going on outside the grand thee-a-ters have on what was going on inside? I'll think of a better one later, besides, this is getting quite long, in fact, it is so long that it could in itself be its own blog. Ok, I'll stop.
ReplyDeleteSorry, I just want everyone to know that our big planet earth and society realm is spelled: w-o-r-l-d.
ReplyDeleteHey Rach-bach I think you presented a very good idea. How did political, societal, world events (war, depression, prosperity) affect, or not affect what was going on on the stages of Neew Yok Ceatee?
ReplyDeleteDad and Rachel,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your suggestion. Rach-bach I suggest you take MDT history because we talk about how musical theater came to be. Dad your second question is exactly what we are talking about in class. I love your ideas, keep them coming before tomorrow morning. THANKS!!!!
Well I wasn't going to share, but after Rachels comment on how we should wait, then give the really good idea..... considering it is due tomorrow I feel as if we can wait no longer.
ReplyDeleteTHESIS:(in the form of a question) Why is it named broad-way, when it is neither broad nor "the way" maybe b/c it is broad as in a lot of people try to make it big there but "the way" to get there is very narrow, you could even tie in religious themes, which are obvious. You can quote me on all of this, but make sue I am "cited" just use my date of birth, full name, and place of residence. I liked the other ideas too.
