Winter is waning, but here is a winter Throwback Thursday picture before spring is here for sure. Here is a picture of me, Terri and Clark at Squaw Valley in Lake Tahoe California. We had taken a trip to my aunt's home, Mary Balch (my dad's sister), in Sacramento, California. My grandmother, Mina Haws Hodgkinson, had spent the winter with Mary and we were going to pick her up and bring her back to Utah. Squaw Valley had been the home of the Winter Olympics just a few weeks prior to us going through town, February 18-28, 1960. This could have been the exact sign my dad saw that made him turn off the freeway. My mom said that when my dad saw this ice skating rink, Blyth Arena, he had everyone hop out of the car and see if we could see some ice skaters. Barb was due in a few weeks, so it was probably nice to break up the trip. I sent my mom the picture via email to jog her memory and help me with the details. The first thing she mentioned when she looked at the picture is that she remembered buying that coat for Terri (She wasn't quite sure the where or the when - but she remembered the coat!!!! We had to piece together a few of the details - something I should be doing every day with that cute mom of mine.). I am shocked that we traveled in dresses. Mom said that is just the way it was. I was 2 1/2 in the picture. I am going to attribute this trip to an Olympic site another reason why I love the Olympics. I know where I am going to be this August 5th to August 21st, sitting on the couch at 336 watching the Olympics in RIO. Anyone want to come and join me????

Robbie sure looks like your brother! One thing about old family photos - there are lots of resemblances to note!!
ReplyDeleteOh, that's my happy, twirly girl - bundled up against the cold - having dreamy fun wherever she is - and wearing a dress in the middle of a regular day
ReplyDeleteLove for the Olympics and love for wearing a dress - goes way back, way back.
ReplyDeleteThese photos are so great. It's probably because I'm a nostalgic Millenial, but old photos have such a charm to them.
