It was a unanimous decision to spend as much time outdoors while in Washington as possible. Nothing beats the Northwest during the summer. We brought our slack line along on the trip and decided to take the family over to Capitol Lake to try it out. It was the perfect day and everyone gave this balancing challenge a whirl. We had so much fun slack lining with the family in such a beautiful setting. The highlight of outdoorsy activities for this trip was camping at Staircase Olympic National Park. We left for the excursion Thursday afternoon with enough time to find a campsite, set up camp, explore the trail all before the sun went down. While exploring the surrounding trails we found ourselves on the opposite bank of the river from our campsite. We were even adventurous enough to cross the river by walking across a fallen tree and wading the rest of the way. It was quite the adventure. We came back to camp for an evening meal of tin-foil dinners, dutch oven peach and raspberry cobbler and of course, the signature camping s'more. The next morning we packed up camp and went straight to the Mt. Rose trailhead. It was a 6.5 mile loop that took us up a steep trail to the summit where we had a gorgeous view of Lake Cushman. We felt pretty accomplished after climbing such a huge mountain. Oh we love camping and would say this trip was first-rate.

Ah, what beautiful scenes. Nice hike you guys. Looks like a nice tent too... but it's not quite the Cornwall Hilton. Ha...ha...ha
ReplyDeleteWow - that looks like a really fantastic adventure - Oh Washington - it is gorgeous. Looks like a pretty aggressive hike - but the vista at the top - beautiful.
