runnin' runnin'

About two months ago, Rachel signed up for the utah valley 5k. Not knowing if she was even capable of running 3.1 miles, she put her money down and thereafter felt obligated to go running (if anything, to make good on the 20 bucks.)

In case you were wondering, there's this overwhelming running culture that could suck you in, and Rachel did get pretty excited about halhigdon.com and logyourrun.com and happened to peruse a few runner's magazines at health stores. And it kind of happened. She started out nice and easy and then one day brazenly ran 5 miles (partially uphill thank you) and figured that twas indeed possible.

Well June 12th finally came, and with an ever adoring fan/personal paparazzi, the entire event was well documented for blogging pleasure:
that's right, #261 . . . the number everyone saw pass them as the race went on.
there were a LOT of people/children/strollers in the 5k.
everyone attached this tag to his/her shoe to mark his/her time.
action shot.
jeffrey had a bunch of people admiring him for not only hauling around his great big camera, but for doing so WHILE riding a bike. frankly i don't think anybody admired me as much as him . . .
apparently i was either really really happy to be finished, or i was just in a daze . . . i really don't remember looking like this.

right after all was done mom asked if i'd do it again; frankly during the race i had plenty of thoughts to the tune of "i hate running, what am i doing? this is the last time, running is not for me." but then i came home and started looking up slots for a 10 k on pioneer day. sheesh.

  3. I am very proud or our dear Rachel. In case ya don't know... I was a long distance runner. Mostly I was a LONG distance runner cuz I was so slow at the short distances and the jocks didn't want to work that hard for the long distances so there were always slots open on the track team for the killer long runs.

Jeffrey, it's great to have the photo log. Tho' I expect Rach could have done a few of the ol' hold the camera out in front of your face shots for documentary reasons. And I bet it was nice for Rach to have her back up team rolling along side.

  5. Way to put your money where your mouth is! Rachel that is really cool I am proud of you. Marybeth is always asking me if she could ever do a 5k, she may have not thought it was possible before but she might be motivated now. She wants to know what your time was. (J/k she didn't really ask). One of the best parts of running races is to have your own photographer along side you. Go for the 10k, maybe I will come and join you

  6. Welcome to the runners' world. (I love being a spectator/cheering squad/photographer for said events - it's a tough job, someone has to do it!!) Go for the 10K - get in on the marathon culture!! (It can be addictive too!)
