LA CANADA FIRES

Many have thought about about Grandpa C. with the La Canada fire being so prominent in the national news. Mom and Dad went out to see Grandpa on Saturday afternoon (while Sarah was at the Stake Beach end-of-summer-party). Being on the Flintridge side, Grandpa just has a spectacular view of the fire(s) on the other side of the valley and sometimes a lot of smoke, depending on which way the wind is blowing . (Thanks to Grandpa for e-mailing us the photos he took from the back yard.)

View Wed. eve the day the fire started.

View Thursday morning - smokey sunrise.

The fire spreads - east toward Altadena and west toward La Crescenta.

View Saturday - the breeze comes in from the ocean and blows the smoke north. Uncle Chris in Palmdale reports the smoke is horrible on their side of the mountains.

View Sunday morning. With the unusual circumstances of a) no prevailing wind b) triple digit temperatures even at night and c) humidity staying low, even at night - the fire doubles in size from 42,000 acres to 85,000 acres over Sunday night.

It stinks!

  1. We are glad to hear Grandpa is ok. My mom called to ask if we had heard whether or not his house was in danger, I'll pass on the news to her!

  2. I'm so sorry for those who have been touched by these fires. We are so thankful that Grandpa is safe. I am looking forward to cooler temperatures, blue skies and wonderful smelling air.

  3. Frankly it's been a wee smelly in these parts as well. I don't know why, but at least I'm prepared to be in California . . . just a few hours!!!
