MNEMONIC DEVICES

Little strings of words or letters can help us remember something. Here is an example so you will know how a Mnemonic Device works.

1. Every Good Boy Does Fine. Taking the first letter of each word gives - EGBDF - who know what these are? Yes, they are the musical notes on the lines, in order from bottom to top of the treble clef. That was easy now wasn't it.
Now let's go for some not quite so easy Mnemonics (but with some really good hints):
2. Roy G. Biv (Hint - Kermit's Connection)
3. HOMES (Hint - good lakeside views)
4. Mercury's Very Eager Mother Just Served Us Nine Potatoes
5. Turn the letters D and B on their sides. (Hint - handy for Arabs)
6. May I have a large container of apples. (Hint - for pie)

Answers to come in the next few days - after we have some good answers (or pleads).
I know what Roy G. Biv and HOMES are!
ReplyDeleteJason and I know number 4 also! YAY!
ReplyDeleteGreat graphic and fun idea. I think your hints for the arab and pie numbers were very clever. Thank for being so fun.
ReplyDeleteMaybe my hints made it too easy. Maybe you'all are just smart. So Jas and Stef think they have 2, 3, 4. Dallin says "clever clues" on 5 and 6 - so does that mean he KNOWS what the answers are or he is just making us THINK he knows what the answers are because the clues are clever for them? Since Robb and MB are not handy to the internet we will let it go til tomorrow mid- afternoon so they can have some of the fun. Then all you that are SAYING you know what the answers are may start making comments to state what you think.
ReplyDeleteI understand that Roy G. Biv is a pretty colorful guy. If Katie and I had moved to Michigan I am not sure we could buy a home near those Lakeside Homes. I think eating nine potatoes is an unearthly feat. I wonder whether the D or the B requires more hands. If it was a B could you be a taxi? I might be able to answer number six if I only knew the circumference of the large container.
ReplyDeleteVery good. Very good. Next time I won't give hints to make it so easy.
ReplyDeleteYeah I will say so, It looks like I am not the only one to know some of these, and on behalf of Mb she knew some as well, Roy G biv was used a lot in chemistry to help us remember the spectrum, that was a fun post we should do more things like this that was really fun
ReplyDeletep.s. Maryblog is way good at these, we were reviewing them and she got pretty much all of them, I think they are right but that remains to be seen, I will be excited to see how we...she does
ReplyDeleteSome of you have really gotten #5? If so Mom and I have very smart kids. I wouldn't know #5 without the answer sheet (it's not in my "cawmun knawledge").
